Wedding Color Trends Month by Month
March 23, 2011 by admin
You are just starting the wedding planning process and I bet one of the first questions everyone asks you is “what are your colors?” I know when I was planning my wedding I went through them all and had such a hard time picking the theme that worked best. There are so many factors to consider and the hardest factor of them all is trying to please everyone!
I have done some looking and been able to find that there are some distinct color trends for weddings on a month by month basis.
Please note that these themes don’t take into account destination weddings. Of course these are just suggestions and obviously you can use these colors anytime of year. Don’t count them out just because I say that I have seen a trend of your colors being used primarily in the summer months if you want to use them in the fall or even winter.
March-early May (Spring Brides)
With the snow melting and the onset of spring on the horizon brides seem to fall into more pastel colors during these months. Lilac is the most prominent and takes the lead but following closely behind are yellow, sage green and different shades of pink. All these colors work very well together and I have a few brides who have used them together to create a different look to a traditional color scheme.
I personally love using one main color for the table overlays and chair sashes on the chair covers and then adding in another color for the centerpieces and then another accent color for the guest favor ribbon, table card trim and place card trim.
For Example:
Lilac Overlays, White Chair Covers & Lilac Sashes
If you chose to use flowers as your centerpieces maybe use Gerber Daisy’s in a variety of shades of pink.
Use Sage green card stock as a border around the table numbers, place cards, and as the accent ribbon on the guest favors.
If doing a few colors isn’t appealing then maybe think about using just one color but different shades of that color. This adds a beautiful elegant effect and also makes it so much easier them trying to match one color exactly!
June-August (Summer Brides)
Summer is great season to be able to play on so many different themes. From Garden themes, beach themes to eye catching contemporary themes, summer has it all!
The one thing I love about summer weddings is that you can use those bright energetic color palettes that you don’t see in winter and fall. If you are a bolder bride then the sky is the limit for the different color ideas you can put together with the popular summer colors.
Some of the top choices are orange, fuchsia pink, lime green and teal. All of these colors can add that special “pop” when you use them with base colors like black, chocolate or even plain old white!
Other popular warmer summer colors are purples, light blues, and touches of yellow.
One of the highlights to having a bright color theme is the variation you can get in flowers! I love seeing the centerpieces and bouquets that come out in the summer months. The eye catching colors and exotic flowers that give the “wow” factor to any wedding picture.
September-October (Fall Brides)
Fall weddings still generate a warm feeling for so many people. This is a great time of year when we give thanks for what we have and what better way than to celebrate the love of two people!
Not only does this season spark different color schemes but we also see a trend towards using elements from outside to compliment your décor. From pussy willows and twigs, to leaves and pumpkins, these earthy accents work perfectly with fall wedding décor.
The number one color for linen for a fall wedding is Chocolate…..again probably because of its connection with the outdoors. Other popular colors are Ivory, rust orange, burgundy or wine reds, gold’s and hunter greens.
I have always wanted to share this great fall wedding guest favor and now seems the perfect time to do so! I did a wedding a few years ago and the bride truly thought of every single detail. Her colors were beautiful chocolate and ivory and she accented her centerpieces with cranberries and twigs to add that splash of color and to top it off her guest favors were small jars of different colored honey! I thought this was a fantastic way to bring in the true gold colors of fall while also keeping to her “earthy, nature” theme.
I never knew honey came in so many colors, but it was the perfect touch and her guests were thrilled. After all; who doesn’t like honey!
November Brides (Not quite fall brides and not winter brides)
November is the in between month….you aren’t necessarily having a fall wedding but you don’t want to jump in to the winter themes yet! An elegant and classy theme for an between month is to play on the gold’s and ivory’s. All VERY warm colors and still work within the fall palette.
Champagne and Ivory were my wedding colors and still are a top pick for all brides no matter what season you are getting married in. I believe that this classy color scheme is simple and elegant and works anytime of year, but especially for a November wedding.
If you are looking for a modern flair for these colors don’t rule out sepia, copper and black accents. These colors all work very well together and add a little variation.
December-February (Winter Brides)
Winter weddings are always a favorite for me. With the chaos of summer wedding season I am always in tune with the romantic elegance winter weddings provide.
Popular colors for winter weddings are ice blues, silver (light and dark), white, gold’s, red, black and any shimmery jewel tones.
Because in winter the sun typically sets before we even leave work; you can’t count on natural light so winter brides rely more on candles and dim lighting to provide a romantic ambiance. I love using crystal accents for winter brides. The lighting ambiance plays off the crystals and creates beautiful rainbows of colors on the tables. If you were to ask my husband he would say that it is because I have a thing for diamonds and anything shinny and expensive looking!
I hope that this overview has given you something to think about and has given you a few ideas of how to accent with whatever theme you choose.
Why Choose a Winter Wedding
March 23, 2011 by admin
Being in the wedding business we all know that the typical wedding season is the spring/summer months from May-September. I find that winter weddings are overlooked, which always surprises me because of the weather we have in Calgary the majority of the year!
I have a few brides dashing down the aisle this winter and when I chatted with them about why they chose a winter wedding I couldn’t help but to share their thoughts!
The biggest reason I found for choosing a winter wedding was the number of deals that you can get from vendors. Savings everywhere from Venues, Catering, DJ’s, Flowers, Photography and yes even Linen & Décor Rentals! I myself offer off season discounts.
When you don’t have hundreds of brides to contend with, the planning process also seems easier for our winter brides. They have noted that booking appointments and viewings have been much easier then trying to find an available slot in the pre-summer planning months. Vendors also have more time to go above and beyond and spend that extra time with you doing set ups and talking through every detail.
Yes you are opting out of an outdoor ceremony, but lets be honest…the odds aren’t always in your favor of having good weather for an outdoor ceremony even in August! Any good wedding planner or venue will always encourage you to have a back up plan…..after all it is Calgary!
Some of the most beautiful wedding pictures I have seen have been from my winter brides. With picturesque vista views of the snow covered mountains, trees covered in hoer frost and brides elegantly draped in fur to keep warm. You will have to put on your thinking cap to come up with some different photo ops, but there are so many possibilities other then just out door pictures.
Another great point is that you can take your Honeymoon to a warmer destination when it is cold here. It is much nicer to leave a cold climate to vacation somewhere warmer, verses leaving our best weather months to go somewhere scorching hot!
The most popular wedding décor colors for a winter wedding are White, Silver (light or dark) and any shade of blue.
I had the pleasure of decorating a gorgeous wedding at the Wedding Pavilion a few weeks ago and the bride put so many little extra touches into the décor that brought her winter wonderland theme together. From the snowflake place card holders, the hot chocolate and marshmallow guest favors to the Pinecones covered in silver glitter that hung behind each chair bow on the chairs. All very small touches, but together everything added that special look that really made the whole theme come together. (Check out my website in a few days for pictures from this wedding).
So before calling and booking the last available date in the summer month’s maybe now you will give a winter wedding a second look.
Why a wedding planner can save a bride money, and time
December 7, 2009 by admin
Planning a wedding is hard work and involves a lot of time and organization. Most brides nowadays have busy lives between work, school, family and extra curricular activities, there isn’t a lot of time left over for calling vendors and searching for the best prices and quality products for your wedding. Because of this a lot of brides end up booking the first vendor they find without really researching whether they are booking the right vendor for what they need.
When newly engaged brides were asked if they would use a wedding planner most of them suggested that the reason they wouldn’t use a wedding planner is because of the price. This is a common misconception and seems to be the opinion of most people. Unfortunately this couldn’t be more further from the truth. [Read more]
How to choose the right venue for your wedding
December 7, 2009 by admin
After your partner pops the question and reality sets in, a million things start running through a brides mind. When should we get married, what venue should we choose, how many people should we invite; and the list goes on and on.
First thing you need to sit down and discuss is what type of wedding you are both hoping for. Do you want to be married on a beach somewhere hot, or would you prefer a mountain wedding, or a very formal event a posh hotel? Obviously the answer this question will help you start your planning, after all there is no point calling hotels in the city when you are hoping for a beach wedding in Mexico! [Read more]

6 Things to consider when choosing your wedding décor colors for your reception hall
December 4, 2009 by admin
There are many things to consider when you are choosing the colors for your wedding décor. If you take the time to follow the following 6 points it will help you stay on budget and make your dream venue a reality.
What does your venue provide: Start at the beginning, once you choose your venue make a list of what the venue already has for décor and what is included so you don’t waste your time looking for things that are already there. Here are a few questions you should be asking: What kind of linen comes standard at the venue, do you get a choice of linen colors, do they rent any additional items, does your venue have preferred vendors that they recommend for rentals, do they have any pictures of different styles already used in the room so you can get a feel for what has worked before?
